Couples Therapy in Roseville & Sacramento, CA | Reconnect, Heal, and Rebuild Your Relationship
Feeling Disconnected? You're Not Alone. There's Hope.
When your relationship feels broken, every day can feel overwhelming. Maybe you're constantly arguing about the same things. Perhaps you feel more like roommates than partners. Maybe trust has been shattered by infidelity. Or perhaps you're wondering if your marriage can even be saved.
You don't have to keep struggling alone.
I'm Lori Hunter, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 14 years of experience helping couples in Roseville and the greater Sacramento area rebuild their relationships. Using proven, research-based methods such as the Gottman Method, I help couples reconnect emotionally, communicate more effectively, and bring joy back into their relationships.
You Deserve a Relationship That Feels Good Again
Many couples come to me feeling stuck, hopeless, or exhausted from trying to fix things on their own. They describe feeling:
Disconnected and lonely, even when sitting in the same room
Frustrated by constant conflict over the same issues again and again
Heartbroken and betrayed after discovering infidelity or broken trust
Uncertain about the future, wondering if divorce is the only option
Like roommates, going through the motions without real intimacy or connection
Unheard and misunderstood when trying to communicate their needs
Anxious about life transitions that are putting strain on the relationship
Couples counseling can help you break these painful patterns and create the relationship you both deserve.
How Couples Therapy Can Transform Your Relationship
Couples therapy isn't just about talking through problems. It's about learning practical skills and tools that create lasting change. In our work together, you'll learn to:
Communicate More Openly and Effectively
Break the cycle of misunderstandings, defensiveness, and shutdown. Learn how to express your needs clearly and listen to your partner in a way that fosters connection rather than conflict.
Manage Conflict in Healthy Ways
Conflict is normal in every relationship. What matters is how you handle it. I'll teach you proven techniques to disagree respectfully, repair after arguments, and find solutions that work for both of you.
Rebuild Trust and Emotional Safety
Whether you're recovering from infidelity, betrayal, or years of disconnection, healing is possible. We'll work together to address the hurt, rebuild trust, and create a foundation of emotional safety.
Reconnect on an Emotional and Intimate Level
Rediscover what brought you together in the first place. Learn how to turn toward each other, express appreciation, and bring back the warmth, affection, and intimacy you've been missing.
Create Your "Marriage 2.0"
If your relationship has been through major challenges, you don't have to go back to the way things were. Together, we'll help you build something even better: a stronger, more resilient partnership built on a deeper understanding and connection.
Specialized Couples Counseling Services
Every couple is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet you exactly where you are. I provide specialized support for:
Infidelity and Betrayal Recovery
Discovering an affair is one of the most painful experiences a couple can face. I help partners navigate the complex emotions, rebuild trust, and decide whether to work toward healing together or part ways with dignity and respect.
Premarital Counseling
Build a strong foundation before you say "I do." Premarital counseling helps you align your goals and values, improve communication, and develop the skills you'll need for a lifetime partnership.
Discernment Counseling
If you're unsure whether to stay in your relationship or leave, discernment counseling can provide clarity. I help couples with mixed agendas explore their options and make confident decisions about their future.
Intensive Day and Weekend Sessions
Don't want to commit to months of weekly therapy? Intensive sessions provide focused, concentrated time to address your most significant issues and achieve meaningful progress quickly. Choose from 2-day (12 hours) or 3-day (15 hours) customized intensives.
Divorce Support
If you've decided to separate, I provide compassionate guidance to help you divorce with respect and dignity in a way that honors both partners and protects any children involved. Learn more about my individual counseling services for support during this transition.

My Philosophy
I believe in meeting you where you are and adjusting my approach to fit your unique needs. My role isn't to "fix" you but to guide you in finding your own solutions. As the saying goes, "teach someone to fish" rather than just "give them a fish."
I work with couples at every stage: those preparing for marriage, those facing everyday challenges, those recovering from infidelity, and those deciding whether to stay together or part ways. Whatever you're facing, you don't have to face it alone.
I'm passionate about helping couples who want to be better connected and work through life's challenges together. If you're struggling with an affair, thoughts of separation, or just feeling disconnected, I can help you realign your goals, needs, and wants to create a stronger partnership.
What to Expect in Couples Therapy
Your First Session
In our first session together, we'll focus on understanding your relationship history, identifying the patterns that aren't working, and establishing clear goals for therapy. You'll leave with practical tools you can use immediately.
Ongoing Sessions
Each session builds on the last. We'll practice communication skills, explore emotional patterns, work through conflicts, and develop a deeper understanding. You'll learn to recognize negative cycles and develop healthier ways of relating to each other.
Between Sessions
Real change happens when you practice new skills at home. I'll provide you with specific exercises and techniques to practice between sessions, helping you integrate what you're learning into your daily life.
Measuring Progress
Together, we'll track your progress and adjust our approach as needed. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and I'll work with you to ensure we're moving in the direction that matters most to you.
Frequently Asked Questions About Couples Therapy

Every couple is different. Some couples see significant improvement in just a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. It's common for one partner to be more hesitant about therapy than the other. I encourage you to schedule a consultation anyway. Sometimes the hesitant partner feels more comfortable once they understand what therapy involves. Individual counseling can also help you work through relationship issues and make positive changes.
-
I'm an out-of-network provider. Many clients use their health savings account (HSA), flexible savings account (FSA) or submit claims to their insurance for reimbursement of out-of-network expenses. I accept cash, Mastercard, Visa and American Express. Individual and couple sessions are $195 per 50-minute session.

Yes, therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions (such as harm to self or others, child abuse, elder abuse or court orders). I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can speak openly about your relationship.

Couples therapy can help you make a clearer, more confident decision about your future. Whether you ultimately decide to rebuild your relationship or separate, therapy provides tools, support, and clarity during this difficult time. I also offer discernment counseling specifically for couples with mixed agendas about staying together.
-
Yes. While recovering from infidelity is one of the most challenging aspects of couples therapy, it's absolutely possible to rebuild trust and create a stronger relationship. Research shows that many couples who work through betrayal report that their relationship ultimately becomes deeper and more fulfilling than before. It requires commitment from both partners, but healing is possible.
-
Absolutely. I welcome couples of all orientations and identities. Creating an affirming, supportive environment for all clients is a priority in my practice.
